Songbird

Songbird can help you keep your media files organized at all times. The application comes with automatic sorting capabilities, it allows you to create smart playlists and much more. Its functionality can be expanded through plug-ins, which you can install without any effort. The application is offered completely free of charge, for Mac OS X and for Windows platforms.

When you launch Songbird for the first time, a wizard will help you import your audio library. Music and videos can be found on separate pages, which you can access through navigation tabs, located on the left side of the user interface. Even if your audio files are dumped into a single folder on your hard drive, Songbird will automatically sort all your songs, by artist, album and genre and it allows you to filter them by these criteria.

Playlists can be created in a column, on the left side of the user interface. Songs can be added to playlists by simple dragging and dropping them. Alternatively, you may create smart playlists, which are populated automatically with songs that match user-defined criteria. Besides artist, album and genre, you can choose from many other criteria. For example, songs may be added to a smart playlist if their years, size, rating, format, bit rate or other characteristics match, contain, start with or do not contain certain keywords.

Songbird comes with a built-in media server as well. You can start it at a moment's notice, with a single click and you can make various tweaks, to make it work according to your needs.
